Beads, Burnout, & Book Goals

Mardi Gras season is finally over! I stay in New Orleans, and if you know, you know. I am also part of a Mardi Gras organization, so this season was jam-packed but fun. I am happy to get back into routine, and that means getting back on my reading grind. I had several reads anticipated (as mentioned in my recent TikTok post), but it is totally unrealistic. I know myself, and if you have been around, you know I get into reading slumps easily.

After much consideration, I am going to meet myself where I am at. I cannot keep up with trends, nor should I try to. I have to go at my own pace with reading, or it is going to feel like a chore. My reads are ambitious, but I have to remove the deadline. I am currently in graduate school and work full-time, so there’s no way I can push myself to read 6 or more books a month.

Getting back into reading has not been straightforward. I have learned so much about what I like and don’t like. Reading should be enjoyable and sometimes even sporadic. Putting a deadline on it can become too taxing for the mind. So although I won’t be making my February reading goal, I am excited to see what the rest of this month has in store.

I am currently reading This Could Be Us by Kennedy Ryan and Dear Debbie by Freida McFadden as my palette cleanser and thriller read.
