The Wife Before Book Review
The Wife Before- Shanora Williams Review
Genre: Thriller/Mystery
4/5 Rating
Drink Pairing: Red Wine
This book was chaotic, surprising, and devastatingly mysterious, in all of the right ways. The Wife Before by Shanora Williams was the perfect restart to my love of psychological thrillers and mysteries. This book followed Samira Wilder, 28, who is an irresponsible and unemployed adult. She has a brother Kellan, who is more financially stable and he finally cuts her off financially. This forces Samira to finally search for a job and become more of an independent adult.
Kellan cutting her off financially, leads Samira to meeting Roland Graham. Roland is a very successful and world renowned golfer, but with a negative image attached to him. He is said and accused to have killed her previous wife, Melanie Graham. It was never actually proven he did commit the murder, but the world already assumed he was at fault. Samira and Roland’s relationship quickly takes off and they marry within the first couple of months of meeting each other. As their marriage continues, Samira begins to dig deep into the death of Melanie, and things start to go left. Did Roland actually kill his ex wife? If so, is Samira next? Samira reads Melanie’s hidden journals and begins to spiral and uncover dark secrets that lay in their relationship.
This book had me turning the page. I loved the inner workings of Shanora’s characters. They were all flawed but perfectly written. The pacing got a little slow at moments, but the short chapters helped the book flow. My heart was racing and I was soon going down the rabbit hole of Melanie’s death along with Samira. I was convinced I knew the ending! This book was intense, shocking, and an overall page turner!
Would you check out this book? Did the ending surprise you? Let me know what you think as you pair this mysterious read with a glass of red wine.
